These Shoes

These shoes...

if they could take me anywhere where would they go?

Lessons learned in time no longer guide me

I only have these shoes.

They've travelled 45 years.

Brought me to the war zone.

And I have moved past the eye of the storm ~ not untouched.

Battletorn again.

Worn out again.

Reduced again.

Again and again.

These soles are wearing out my soul.

A safe home. Warm bed. Something to hold onto.

Sanctuary that I seek keeps me moving on

In these shoes...

In the dawn of this new day I woke,

alone and dreamy in grey morning mist

and shivered only slightly

for rather than reaching to the sky

I had reached out instead.

And heaven answered.

This evening as I sit in the eye of the storm

watching angry gods war

I wrap myself in the glow of the new day mist memory.

Untouched by storm's violence.
